Background
GHF is a local non-profit organization focused on education, economic growth, and livelihood development. It all began in January 2021 with a WhatsApp group that brought together former classmates from the 1998 A/L batch of Carmel Fatima College National School, Kalmunai.
Soon after, we started assisting old friends facing financial struggles. This gradually expanded to supporting others in need of help with their educational and financial challenges.
Our Mission
GHF is committed to enhancing and uplifting children's education in rural areas, particularly in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts. We organize extra classes for primary and secondary students and have launched a scholarship program for students who lack full financial support from their families. Each year, we select 10 students to receive assistance for their educational expenses.
As part of our economic development initiatives, we help families improve their businesses, enabling them to achieve better living conditions.
Our organization has developed strategic plans to mobilize low-income families by organizing them into small groups, laying the groundwork for a future microfinance program.
Additionally, GHF is working to raise awareness about nutrition, promote local food, and foster solidarity, as well as ethnic and religious harmony. Our goal is to empower rural communities through social engagement and participatory development, ultimately enhancing self-sustainability in alignment with sustainable development goals.
